Memfox Privacy Policy

Memfox is built local-first. You don't create an account, and your study data belongs to your device.

What stays on your device

• Your decks, flashcards, quizzes and review history are stored in a local database on your device only. There is no Memfox account and no cloud sync.
• Photos never leave your device. When you scan a notebook page, text recognition (OCR) runs entirely on-device using Google ML Kit. The image is not uploaded anywhere.

What leaves your device

Only when you tap Generate with AI (and after you agree to the consent dialog), the app sends:

• The text to convert (recognized from your photo, or pasted by you) to our server proxy, which forwards it to our AI providers — Groq and DeepInfra — to generate your flashcards and quiz. Neither provider uses it to train AI models, and neither retains it after the request. The text is sent without your name or any account identifier. We do not store your text on our servers after the request completes.
• An anonymous install ID — a random identifier generated on first launch, used only to count your daily free generations and rewarded-ad bonuses. It is not linked to your identity.
• Your IP address is used for rate limiting (abuse protection) only. Hourly request counters expire after 2 hours; the daily counter that limits how many installs a single network can register expires after 48 hours. We never link your IP to your study content.

Additionally:

• Content reports. If you report AI-generated content, the reported text and your install ID are stored for up to 90 days so we can review quality and safety, then deleted automatically.
• Anonymous usage events (e.g. "generation succeeded", "quota reached") with the install ID are collected via Cloudflare Analytics Engine to keep the free tier healthy. No advertising identifiers, no profiling.
• App integrity. We may use Google Play Integrity to verify the app is genuine and unmodified, as an anti-abuse measure.

Ads and purchases

• Memfox shows no banner ads. There are two ad formats: a rewarded ad you explicitly choose to watch in exchange for extra AI generations, and full-screen ads at natural breaks — after you finish a study session, after you see your quiz results, and after a deck is saved. Full-screen ads are rate-limited to at most one every 3 minutes.
• Ads are served by Google AdMob; before the first ad we ask for consent via Google's UMP framework where required.
• Purchases (Premium) are processed by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details.
• Premium users see no ads at all.

Data deletion

• Uninstalling the app deletes all local data (decks, cards, history).
• The anonymous install ID cannot be traced back to you. If you want server-side data tied to your install ID (quota counters, reports, analytics events) deleted sooner than their automatic expiry, email us the install ID shown in Settings → About and we will delete it.

Children

Memfox is a general-audience study tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

We will update this page when our data practices change and bump the date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
